If the user does a save-as would it be reasonable to auto-switch to edit mode for that ? - clearly they intend to edit, and any benefit of not touching the file is not present then anyway.

Yup. Anything that reduces the percentage of time a users sees this
kludge, the better.

Makes sense to me! Created Desktop app's Save As should switch to Edit mode · Issue #15719 · CollaboraOnline/online · GitHub to track the problem- I’ll have a look.

I dont see a reason why I should at the Desktop app didnt start in edit mode in general. Office Files are for edit, not for viewing.

However if the Desktop App starts in Viewing, there can be some visual Informationen to switch to edit mode and have there an checkbox always open in edit View.
