We use Collabora with Nextcloud for our digital collaboration in the Advisory Board for People with Disabilities. However, we have not been able to use the screen reader function so far; we get the error message “Screen reader support disabled.” even when its activated on the server. Is this function only available in the business version or also in the community version? I would appreciate any advice on how we can improve accessibility for our blind employees.
The screen reader function is available in both the community (CODE) and business versions, but it needs to be activated in two places:
In the UI: Go to Tools → Accessibility Support → Screen Reader Support and enable it.
On the server: In your coolwsd.xml configuration file, make sure the <accessibility> section has <enable>true</enable>, then restart the Collabora service.
If both are enabled and it still shows “Screen reader support disabled,” let us know which versions of Collabora and Nextcloud you’re using so we can help further troubleshoot.
