Can't save to Proton Drive

So here’s an interesting one. On my Android phone (Pixel 7, Android 15, Collabora v: 24.04.12.4) I can open and edit documents from my Proton Drive. I can also “export as” to Proton Drive, as long as I create a new file. However, I can not save the edits to a file on Proton Drive - no error is given, but the changes are not saved. Nor can I ‘Export As’ and overwrite the file on Proton Drive - Error is: Something went wrong. Saving as wt is not supported. Only r.

I have cross-posted this issue to the Proton discord, just in case. Anybody have any thoughts or experience with this?

hii @Pipe593 welcome to collabora online forums

That’s a curious one—and a good catch. It sounds like Proton Drive is mounted in a way that allows read and create access, but not write/update access to existing files. That error message (“Saving as wt is not supported. Only r.”) seems to indicate that the file system interface being used by Proton Drive (on Android) is only exposing the file in a read-only mode (r) or maybe read-create, but not in a write-update (wt) mode.

Have you tried another editor? – Just for comparison, like Word for Android or even Google Docs, to see if they can overwrite a file on Proton Drive. That might confirm it’s a Proton-side limitation.

Thanks

Hah! Being a Unix guy, where a write is a write, I wasn’t even aware of the ‘update’ option on Android. You are absolutely right, other apps can read, create and delete, but can not overwrite. I’ve contacted Proton support - and will update this thread with any information they provide.
