I downloaded and installed 24.04.7.3 for Android with no issues. Moved over a LibreOffice Writer 24.8.2.1 file to the internal storage on the tablet, Samsung running Android 12, and it all seemed to be going good. Then, I went to see how much I had changed the file. I went to do a word count. It crashed.
I went to open the file and it did, but there was no recovery warning. In fact, even though I had saved several times and the program seems to pause like it is auto saving, NO changes were made to the file. All my work is gone.
I do not know if there is any crash recovery or anything because there is no help for the Android version. The menus are not very intuitive. I expected the limited options as it warns it is not the full version. Still, I expected the absolute basics of manually saving a file to work!
Is there any way to get my data back or did I just spend a day for no reason? Also, how can I get it to really save!
@E.Mccormick Welcome to the Collabora Online forums!
I’m really sorry to hear about your experience with saving files. Does this issue happen frequently? If so, could you share the exact steps you followed before the crash? This information will be invaluable in reproducing and resolving the issue.
Any document, try a word count, it just goes to the recent documents screen. No word count given. Basically the editing part crashes and the normal exit save etc. does not happen. This seems unrelated to the save issue.
Made a new test document. Wrote a few words. Saved. Exited. Opened the program. Loaded. What I did was there.
Opened the file I had been working on. Added a few lines to the top. Put some text in one of them. Saved. Exited. Opened the program. Loaded. What I did was MISSING.
It is failing to save a file that has been copied over and gives no error as to why. The new document is in the same folder on the same internal drive. As Android does not let you look at all permissions, I do not know if every flag is the same, but what I can see and check is the same.
But here is where it gets real fun:
If I export the document as an odt, the changes are there. Changes made to the exported document are saved. It is only changes to the original document that do not get saved and there is no error message.
This means that to edit documents with this, they would need to be loaded, exported, the copy edited, and then to put it back elsewhere I will be playing more games. My goal was to see if I could use the tablet as a lighter option than a laptop. Having to do extra file management to even make it work is not really very enticing. Also, I am exceptionally worried about any program that fails to save and is silent about it. What else could silently happen without me noticing?
Thank you for reporting this issue. We’ve identified the problem and are currently working on a fix.I’ll keep you updated here as soon as the release is available.
Thanks again for bringing this to our attention—it’s truly appreciated!
