Cannot open files in the desktop version from mapped drives

Hi, We use Nextcloud with Nextcloud Office and a separate Collabora Online server. Opening files from within Nextcloud (open in a browser) works just fine. On Android and on Windows 10, if we open the file from Nextcloud it works fine.

We also installed the desktop version of Collabora Offine (version 25.x.x) under windows 10. We have mapped the Nextcloud folders as different drives. For example the folder ‘documents’ in the Windows File Manager point to the Nextcloud online folder ‘files/corparte/documents’.

We can create a new document in the desktop version and save it on the mapped drive. The problem is that we cannot open this file. Not from within the Collabora application with the open ‘open’ or ‘recent’ nor from within the File Manager by a double click. Sometimes a message is shown asking if the file is corrupted, but the application always crashes.

Files that are in the local drives will open as espectad.

It seems that mapped drives are the issue here. Mapped drives uses credentials perhaps that is the problem. Any ideas and/or advice?

If it is not soluble, is it a option to use the (existing) online version when we want to open a file on a mapped drive?

appriciate any advice and help
thanks for the time

hi @wmusch

The built-in Windows WebDAV client can cause incomplete/corrupted reads, which may crash Collabora Office when opening files.

The most reliable solution is to use the Nextcloud Desktop Sync Client instead of a mapped drive. With Virtual Files enabled, files still appear in Explorer but open locally and sync automatically.

Alternatively, try a third-party WebDAV client like Mountain Duck or RaiDrive, as they are generally more reliable than the Windows WebDAV client.

Opening the file directly from the Nextcloud web interface with Collabora Online also avoids the issue completely.

Hi @darshan thanks for your answer. I was investigating the windows webdav where it was going wrong. I found indeed some topics on the internet and also some suggestions. One of them was using CloudMounter. And yes it works fine now… Raidrive we use on another server for webdav connections but only for RO connections.

But it will be working now; just need to remap all the drives

thanks again
