Dead Keys for accented characters not working

Environment:

  • Collbora Online 25.04.9.4 4610258811
  • Docker 29
  • NextCloud 32 (also as docker containers)
  • Firefox 149 for Mac
  • Chrome 146 for Mac

I am using the “ABC” keyboard layout on my Mac, whereby typing an ä requires to do: option+u, then a.

This works well everywhere but in Collabora Online, where I instead get: ¨a

I suspect the issue is that the Option key triggers the keyboard shortcut feature for menus (how is this called? Access Keys?).

Is there a recommended way to get such dead key setups to work reliably? Is there a way to disable the access keys / menu shortcuts?
