@sebastiaanveld Comments in Weblate are fine, but they’ll stay there forever, as they can’t be removed once a decision has been met. I suggest that we try to move potentially longer conversations over here.
E.g. Liaising with LibreOffice.
Do we have a contact at the Dutch translator(s) of LibreOffice with whom we can discuss consistency issues between MS Office - LibreOffice - Collabora?
Ouch! A sudden ghust of new subprojects in weblate; hundreds of text strings to translate and to check.
AND I noticed that we’ve got ourselves a Glossary!
I’m starting with the low hanging fruit: subprojects at 100% that have failing Checks
@darshan can you tell us something about the origin of all these strings, were these coming from LibreOffice or these COOL originals and if so - how have these originally been translated? Meaning: do we need to check all these or should we just focus on the new strings and those with a ‘has check’?
Another question: can you open up the Glossary, so that the translators can add words and translations? (Maybe a limited few should be given rights to edit Glossary terms.)
A follow up question: if a term has been added to the glossary, will that initiate new checks for all the strings in all projects? It would be good for consistency if new strings would be marked as ‘to be checked’
@sebastiaanveld
I’m running into translation inconsistencies re.
comment (= commentaar)
remark (= opmerking)
note (= notitie)
Do you agree that we should fix all these inconsistencies and if so, how are we going to find these across all these different sub projects and do we need to bring this into the attention of the LibreOffice translators as well?
Well, it’s up to you, if you want to co-operate with LibreOffice translators. We won’t automatically take translations from LibreOffice. Whatever is in our Weblate, will go into Collabora Office and Collabora Online. You can make fixes, or unify terminology. I did it for instance in Hungarian, my native language.
I’ve just joined the LibreOffice translation team and will look over there how these terms are (consistently) translated @sebastiaanveld Do you have a take on this list of translation issues?
All Collabora projects are now fully translated into Dutch language and ‘has check’ has been brought to 0.
While solving the ‘has check’ items and watching ‘similar translations’ I ran into many more inconsistencies, which I’ve resolved. The Weblate Search tool has been very helpfull as well in this.
In my mind, there remains one thing to further look into:
table header
column header
header row
and similar…
I get the impression that MS365 (Dutch) is not quite consistent about these terms across Word and Excel. As such, I am hesitant to take these on, at this point.
