Cell protection

I’m trying to understand how Cell Protection works. I’m using CODE in Nextcloud, and by some random actions I have achieved what I needed with one sheet, but I cannot do this again.
I want to protect some cells, but not all.
The video here Unlock the Power of Sheet Protection in Collabora Online! is not at all helpful, nor the text.

I would imagine that I would

  1. Select the cells I want to Protect
  2. Format > Format cells > Protected
  3. Review > Protect Sheet > Allow users of this sheet to “Select unprotected cells”

This workflow locks the whole sheet.

The video doesn’t show that complete workflow, so it’s not possible to see what I am doing wrong.

This page https://www.collaboraonline.com/blog/unlocking-protection-with-locked-cells-in-collabora-online/ has the following instructiuons, that again do not make sense to me.

** Go to the “Context” menu of the sheet tab – or go to the tab “Review” > “Protect Sheet”;*
** You can set a password in the dialogue, but this is not mandatory;*
** Click “OK” to apply sheet protection – notice the lock icon on the tab; this indicates that the sheet protection is active;*
** To customize cell protection, navigate to “Format” > “Format Cells”, and then select the “Cell Protection” tab;*
** Cell Protection is automatically enabled and works when the sheet is protected – you can adjust settings to unprotect cells, hide them, and more;*
** In addition to protecting cell content, you can also control whether users are allowed to insert or delete columns and rows;*

Sheet protection is easy to use and helps you stay in control of collaboration.

Can anyone help me please?

@JonathanDHolden I now understand the issue more clearly after discussing it with a friend who has solid experience in this area.

We’ll also make sure to correct and clarify this point in the upcoming Feature Friday video to make it easier for users to follow.

Thanks
