New user, transitioning from Google Workspace who tried Libre Office and was looking for a more contemporary interface and found Collabora Desktop - Yay!
I understand how to change styles in a standalone document, but can’t for the life of me figure out how to change the default style settings. Instructions online mention options that I don’t see to either update default styles or create a new default from a template. For that matter I can’t even figure out how to create a template file.
Hopefully I’m not missing something obvious. Either way, I hope someone can help me here.
HI @LifeAdventure Welcome to the community!
Glad you found Collabora Office
You’re not missing anything obvious — the instructions you found online are for the classic (LibreOffice-style) interface. It sounds like you’re using the new Collabora Office desktop app with the modern tabbed UI, and that app doesn’t (yet) have the classic Template Manager or the File → Templates → Save as Template → Set as default workflow.
A few options in the meantime:
1. Use a template file (.ott) as your starting point
- Set up a document with your preferred paragraph/character/page styles.
- Save it as an ODF Writer template (
.ott). If you have LibreOffice or Collabora Office Classic installed, File → Templates → Save as Template works there; the resulting .ott is fully compatible.
- Opening the
.ott creates a new untitled document based on it, with all your styles ready to go
Changing the app-wide default template / default styles directly in the new interface is a fair feature request — feel free to file one on the GitHub issue tracker or in the feedback category here, and mention which version you’re on (check Help → About).
