New Documents opening with 'Save As' dialog for Collabora Office Desktop

When one attempts to open a New Document in Collabora Office Desktop, under Windows 11, one always gets a Save As dialog opening instead of a blank document.

When attempting the same under Ubuntu 24.04 the selected blank New Document opens as expected.

Is there any means to get the Windows version to perform in the same manner to that of Linux version?

On Windows, Collabora Office Desktop is designed to behave in a document-centric way rather than an application-centric way.

That means:

  • A “New Document” is treated as a file that must immediately have a location and filename
  • Windows applications commonly prompt for Save As upfront to avoid creating unnamed, temporary documents
  • This aligns with Windows file handling expectations and Microsoft Office–style workflows

So when you choose New Document, Windows asks you where to save it before allowing editing.
