Cannot display Chinese

Hi All,

I update NextCloud office to latest version. After that, we found that cannot display Chinese correctly. How to troubleshoot this problem?

Please help! Many thanks!

Tony

Hey @Tony, welcome to the forum.

Without more information, it’s a little hard to help.

  • What is your Collabora Help > About info?
  • What version of Nextcloud + richdocuments are you running?

And you are saying… it was working fine previously, and just recently broke?

  • Do you happen to know what version you were running before?

Hi,

NextCloud:
This Nextcloud is on version 28.0.6

When we are running NextCloud 28.0.4 (sorry forgot the NC office version), it cannot display Chinese correctly.

After we running:
sudo -u apache php updater/updater.phar --no-interaction

to upgrade NC from 28.0.4 to 28.0.5, it cannot display Chinese correctly.
Tonight, I update from 28.0.5 to 28.0.6, it still cannot display Chinese correctly.

Please help! Many thanks!

“Slow Proxy”

Hey @Tony, I moved your duplicate thread here (because you added a helpful screenshot).

Please do not post in multiple places. You were already getting some help in this thread!

Note: I also see you cross-posted to the Nextcloud Forums too. That’s good, maybe more help / other solutions too!

Hmmm… and:

Q1. Did you install Collabora Online using Docker?

Q2. Is your browser / Nextcloud / OS showing a fully Chinese UI?

Thanks for the screenshot!

Looks like in your Nextcloud (or OS), you might want to also:

  • Add a Chinese font

This will help it appear in the “Font” dropdown inside of Nextcloud Office.

Like right now, your screenshot shows:

  • DejaVu Sans

but that isn’t a font that supports CJK characters!

How to Add A Font to Nextcloud Office

In Nextcloud:

  1. Use your browser to visit your Nextcloud admin dashboard.
  • In my case, it was:
  1. In the far upper-right:
  • Click on your profile picture > Administration Settings.
  1. Along the left-hand side, under “Administration”:
  • Click on “Nextcloud Office”.
  1. There should be a section called “Extra Fonts”:
  • Click on the “Upload extra font file” button.
  1. Upload your CJK font there.

Now, when you go back to your spreadsheet, you should see:

  • “Noto Sans CJK” in the dropdown.

Hopefully that will let it display the Chinese letters.

Right now, your Nextcloud<->Collabora is probably not finding any CJK fonts, so you are getting those blank squares.
